Working together for Kosovo in
2009
14.01.09 - The EUSR hosted a press conference together with Heads of
the other EU presences in Kosovo to mark the beginning of the Czech
Republic Presidency at the Council of the European Union.
EU Special Representative, Pieter
Feith underlined that the main challenges for Kosovo are stability,
reform and reconciliation. "Now is the time to reach out to all
communities in Kosovo to work energetically on the priorities that
the government and my office have identified," he said. "These are
decentralisation, education -- we want to develop a curriculum for
all minorities in Kosovo -- returns and very important also the
protection of cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo."
On behalf of the Czech Presidency in Kosovo, Janina Hrebickova, the
Czech Ambassador, stated that the EU was trying to support as much
as possible the countries of the Western Balkans. She said it was
the intention of the Czech Presidency to further strengthen the
prospects for European integration of the region, under the
Stabilisation and Association Process.
The EULEX Head of Mission, Yves de Kermabon stressed the fact that
EULEX’s deployment on the 9th of December, without any incident, was
very important and the mission was doing its best to reach full
capability by the end of the winter.
Renzo Daviddi, head of the European Commission’s Liaison office,
said financial support was continuing. “We have intensified our
financial assistance as a result of the donors’ conference, and
Kosovo receives some of our highest assistance in the region,”
said Daviddi.
