briefs Political and Security Committee (PSC) at the Council of the
European Union
EUSR Pieter Feith briefed today the Political and
Security Committee (PSC), the key EU Foreign Policy body of the
Council of the European Union in Brussels. “The start of the EULEX
mission throughout Kosovo was a significant leap forward for Kosovo
and the European Union’s engagement. The momentum this has created
will help me moving forward in three priority areas: strengthening
Kosovo’s stability, supporting economic and other urgent reforms and
promoting the reconciliation of its communities”, Feith told the
Committee.
In his briefing Pieter Feith said that the situation
on the ground has remained overall stable throughout the past year
and looked forward to EULEX reaching full operational capability,
“especially in the North [where] there is a need to establish
greater rule of law”.
The EUSR stressed the importance of the Kosovo
authorities’ willingness to remain committed to the reconciliation
process among Kosovo’s different communities and to focus on the
extensive reforms necessary. He also urged them to step up their
efforts at outreach to the Kosovo Serbs and other communities.
The EUSR also briefed the body on the establishment
of the Technical Information Exchange Forum in the area of Religious
and Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with
the EUSR office and the Commission Liaison Office. “In line with the
European Partnership we are seeking to further strengthen the
mechanisms which serve to protect the rich religious and cultural
Heritage in Kosovo”, said Pieter Feith.
