Close ties with Brussels - Pieter Feith meets Javier Solana and
other EUSRs from all over the world
Pieter Feith met with Javier Solana, High
Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and
other ten EU Special Representatives colleagues from the region and
beyond, for a working lunch at the Council of the European Union in
Brussels. Apart from the Balkans regions, EU Special Representatives
are working for EU policy objectives in: the Middle East,
Afghanistan and Pakistan, Africa, Russia, Ukraine and Georgia. At
the meeting, Javier Solana and the EUSRs reviewed areas of
engagement and the challenges facing the EU in 2009. The Western
Balkans region, including Kosovo, has been identified to continue
playing a major priority for the EU in 2009.
* EU Special Representatives provide the EU with an
active political presence in key countries and regions, acting as a
"voice" and "face" for the EU and its policies. The EU has currently
eleven Special Representatives in different regions of the world to
promote EU policies and interests and to play an active role to
consolidate peace, stability and the rule of law.
