“What do you think about the youth in Kosovo?”

“Young people in Kosovo are friendly and full of energy” was the answer of Rainer Kuehn, EULEX Head of Police Component when he visited High School for Medicine “Dr. Asllan Elezi” in Gjilan/Gnjilane and explains the role of the European Union (EU) and how it all started.

Rainer Kuehn explained what European Union is and how was it formed, while mentioning the idea of Robert Schuman in 1950 who proposed that initially France and Germany should work together so there will be no war between the two countries. The initial idea was to control the trade of coal and steel, and in that way, nobody could control the two countries.

“It all started step by step and today 27 member states are part of European Union” said Mr. Kuehn, while explaining the role and importance of 27 member states in EULEX Mission in Kosovo and his role as Head of Police Component in the EULEX Mission.

“Kosovo and the Balkans are a part of Europe. Honestly it is a hard and stony way, but it depends on you and on every member of this mission to achieve EU standards and on the end of this road.  European Union will invite you to be part of EU” said Rainer Kuehn highlighting that “the EU offers peace, prosperity and welfare and that is why European Union a great idea”
