“It will be in your hands to elect people who represent you…
The Czech Ambassador to Kosovo, Janina Hrebickova on behalf of the
Czech Presidency of the European Union, visited the Janjevo/Viti
elementary school over 100 pupils from different communities
in Kosovo waited for her arrival full of expectation.
Czech Ambassador to Kosovo, Janina Hrebickova mentioned that after
the Czech Republic Sweden will take the presidency of the EU
and she gave the students of primary school in Janjevo a
descriptive explanation to say that Kosovo still has a long
road to go towards EU integration. Democracy is – demos-
freedom and cratos – it means a principle that determines
their voice. The first sign is free and fair elections and
free media. Media and the parliament make your voice heard.
The government has to be democratic. The big book
requirement has to be fulfilled, create reforms in
education, multiethnic society. Advantages of the EU are,
free travel, education, economic opportunities, free trade,
businesses and exchanges. Every country has extremists, but
democratic judiciary does not allow it to happen. Many
countries believe that joining the EU is not a good idea,
but countries that want to join the EU have to fulfill the
criteria and big countries have bigger economy and bigger
political impact, but big countries can not impose the
things that benefit only them.
After the lecture students had many questions for Mrs.
Hrebickova as for example: what is democracy which are the
requirements for one country to join the EU, what are the
advantages of the EU member states and does the size of the
country matter if it want to join the EU what are the
advantages of big and small countries in the EU is this the
final number of states to join the EU and how many states
are against the EU enlargement is there a short term plan
for Kosovo to join the EU?
