27 May – Faculty of Economy in Prishtinė/Priština

“Kosovo needs to define its priorities before it can move towards European integration”

Renzo Daviddi, Head of European Commission Liaison Office (ECLO), gave today’s EU Teach a day lecture at the Faculty of Economy in Prishtinė/Priština a good match as Mr Daviddi himself is a macro economist by academic career. He stressed that for economists it is of great importance to speak English as nowadays everything is written in English starting from the internet and manuals that students will be using in the future.

Mr. Daviddi explained that his office started its work four years ago and their main work is to assist and help as a donor with the reconstruction, building and all what is necessary for a community to develop. ECLO is the biggest donor in Kosovo and has invested millions of Euros for reconstruction. Kosovo’s European perspective should be led by fulfilling the same criteria that all EU member states had to fulfill on their road to the EU.

The process of European enlargement is very technical, but also highly political. One country should know what their priorities are and if they really want to be part of the EU. Every country needs to adopt a number of criteria in order to achieve EU goals and become a member state. The role of the ECLO is to be a professor and at the end give its opinion on what has been done so far.

Mr. Daviddi concluded by saying that having Minister Enver Hoxhaj present today is a sign that Kosovo will soon move forward to better life and better opportunities for students and other citizens.
